Bihar and Jharkhand are large, growing markets for imitation jewellery, with strong wedding and festival traditions. For wholesalers, they are also markets where factory-direct supply from Mumbai can compete well with local sources, especially for bridal sets.
Traditional Bihari bridal pieces
- Maang tikka: forehead ornament.
- Nath: nose ring, often with a chain.
- Jhumka and karnphool: earrings.
- Hansuli: a rigid, curved torque-style necklace, a traditional piece in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh that customers look for.
- Necklace sets: gold-tone, often antique or Kundan, with red and green stones.
- Kardhani / kamarbandh: waist chain; bajuband: armlet.
- Bangles: including lac bangles (lahathi), often red and green with stones, worn with gold-tone bangles.
- Payal and bichhiya: anklets and toe rings.
Gold-tone bridal jewellery with red stones dominates: red and gold sell strongest for weddings and Chhath, with sindoor-red stones and bright or antique gold. Add pastel options only as the younger market grows.
Chhath Puja and the wedding months
Chhath Puja is one of the most important festivals of Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh, usually in October or November. Women fast and offer prayers to the sun at rivers and ponds, dressed in traditional sarees and jewellery, so demand for bangles, nose rings, red jewellery and festive sets rises in the weeks before - wherever Bihari communities live. Large communities in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Gujarat and the Gulf buy wedding and Chhath jewellery where they live, and some buy in bulk to take home, so distributors in those cities can plan a Chhath range.
Chhath is also observed with great devotion by migrants from Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and beyond, so demand follows these communities: distributors in those cities can plan a Chhath range for them.
Teej, Karva Chauth and Diwali follow, and many weddings fall in the months after Chhath (roughly November to February) and in spring (April to June). Road transport from Mumbai to Patna takes planning; build transit time into your order dates.
Price tiers
Bihar and Jharkhand markets are often price-sensitive, with large volumes at accessible price points - pricing too high is the most common mistake. Build a strong entry and middle tier (antique gold necklace sets, naths, jhumkas and bangles in red and gold) with a smaller premium bridal range and a few hansuli and statement pieces. Mid-tier sets with a rich look but controlled weight sell best, and factory-direct buying helps distributors stay competitive while protecting margin. Tier-two and tier-three towns are increasingly served by organised retail and online sellers.
Sourcing
Patna and Ranchi have wholesale markets, but many distributors buy from bigger hubs to widen their range. We make bridal and festive pieces at 200 pcs per design (400 for earrings and pendants). See bridal jewellery manufacturer and the Patna market guide.
Briefing Bihari bridal pieces
Specify the necklace style, stone colours (red and green dominate), tikka size, nath chain length and bangle sizes. Ask for lahthi-style bangle designs if you want to pair them with gold-tone bangles.
