Most wholesale buyers do not want 2,000 units of one necklace. They want a range. A mixed-design order lets you build that range from one manufacturer, as long as you understand how MOQ applies.
The basic rule
At Jagruti, MOQ is 200 pcs per design (400 for earrings and pendants). You can combine as many designs as you like in one order, as long as each design reaches its MOQ (200 pcs, or 400 for earrings and pendants). So an order could be:
| Design | Units |
|---|---|
| Temple haaram A | 300 |
| Kemp choker B | 200 |
| Jhumka C | 400 |
| Jhumka D | 200 |
| Total | 1,100 |
Why the minimum is per design
Each design has its own CAD, master, moulds and setup. Those costs do not shrink because other designs are in the same order.
Can colours vary within a design?
Often yes, because the mould is the same: for example, 200 units of one choker split 100 ruby-red and 100 emerald-green kemp. That gives variety without adding a new design. Some designs need a separate stone setup for each colour, so ask at the quote stage before you plan on it.
Can finishes vary?
Sometimes. Antique and matte finishes on the same casting can be possible, but they add setup. Keep splits simple for first orders.
Building a balanced first order
- Hero pieces: two or three designs you are confident in, at deeper quantities.
- Supporting pieces: earrings and smaller items that sell alongside heroes.
- Test pieces: one or two new designs at the minimum.
For example, a distributor starting with about 2,000 pieces:
| Design type | Designs | Pieces per design | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long necklace sets | 2 | 200 | 400 |
| Chokers | 2 | 200 | 400 |
| Jhumkas | 2 | 400 | 800 |
| Pendant sets | 1 | 400 | 400 |
| Total | 7 | 2,000 |
This covers the main categories a counter needs and leaves room to re-order the winners. Typical first orders from our clients range from 1,000 to 5,000 units across designs.
Sets vs separates
A necklace set made as a set counts as one design, even though it contains a necklace and a pair of earrings. Earrings sold on their own are a separate design with their own minimum, usually higher because they are smaller and quicker to make. Decide early which designs you will sell as sets and which as separates, because it changes the quantities you need, and check how your manufacturer counts sets before you order.
Re-orders
Use the first order's sell-through: designs that sold out fast get a bigger re-order, slow designs are dropped, and one or two new designs are added to test. Over a few seasons your mixed order becomes a range of proven sellers.
Most factories apply the same MOQ to re-orders, because moulds and setup still have to be run, but re-orders are faster since the approved sample, stone list and finish are already recorded. Keep your order history by design code so a re-order is a one-line message.
Common mistakes
- Too many designs at the minimum, spreading budget thin
- Forgetting earrings and small pieces that lift average sale value
- Splitting too many colours within one design, complicating production

When a smaller quantity is enough
For a design you are testing, going through a wholesaler with ready stock may be better than ordering 200 from the factory. Once it proves itself, move it to a factory order and your unit cost falls.
