CZ (cubic zirconia) jewellery, known in India as AD (American Diamond), is one of the most widely sold imitation categories. It suits bridal sparkle, receptions, office wear and gifting. For wholesalers, CZ offers steady demand across regions and seasons.
What to know about CZ stones
CZ is a lab-made crystal cut with facets like a diamond. Quality varies in cut precision, clarity and colour, and stones are sold in informal grades, often labelled A, AA, AAA and AAAAA: higher grades usually have sharper facets, better polish and clearer colour. The difference shows most in large stones and in pave work, where hundreds of small stones sit side by side. For bridal sets, ask your manufacturer to fix the grade, stone size and colour against the design code, so re-orders sparkle the same. Read AD and CZ grades.
CZ also comes in colours - emerald, ruby, sapphire, pink and champagne are common - which lets customers match outfits without new designs. Ask which colours can be supplied consistently for re-orders.
Setting methods compared
| Setting | Look | Strength | Common use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prong | Stone raised, maximum light | Good if prongs are even | Solitaires, large stones |
| Pave | Many small stones close together | Depends on precision | Bands, borders, bridal |
| Channel | Stones in a groove between walls | Very secure | Bands, lines |
| Bezel | Metal rim around the stone | Very secure, less sparkle | Daily wear |
| Glue-in | Stones fixed with adhesive | Weakest | Low-price pieces |
Prong, pave and channel settings last better and look more like fine jewellery. The details that make CZ look like diamond jewellery - and justify a higher price - are well-cut stones, even prongs, a rhodium finish without yellow patches, and a clean back.
Finishes
Rhodium (white), yellow gold, rose gold and two-tone. Rhodium gives the closest diamond-like look.

Stocking tips
CZ sells across regions and seasons, with peaks at weddings, receptions and gifting, which makes it one of the steadiest categories for distributors. Plan the range in two parts: everyday CZ (studs, small pendants, thin bracelets and rings for office wear and gifting) kept in depth, and bridal and reception sets (dense pave, large centre stones) rotated more often. CZ photographs brilliantly and is light to ship, so it is one of the strongest categories online - clear close-ups and honest descriptions (cubic zirconia, rhodium-plated) reduce returns.
We make CZ pieces to order at 200 pcs per design (400 for earrings and pendants). See AD jewellery wholesale.
Briefing a CZ order
Give the stone size, grade and colour, setting type, finish, and any accent stones, and ask for close-up photos of the setting on the sample.
Care
CZ stones can be scratched by other stones. Store pieces separately and clean them gently with a soft brush and mild soap, then dry them fully.
