Diwali is India's biggest shopping festival, and jewellery is part of it everywhere. Families buy new clothes and jewellery for Lakshmi Puja, visits to relatives and Diwali parties. For wholesalers, the Diwali season is a major revenue peak that rewards early planning.
What customers buy for Diwali
- Festive necklace sets in antique, Kundan and temple styles
- Jhumkas and chandbalis in every price tier
- Bangles and kadas

Regional notes
- North India: Kundan sets, AD party wear, Karva Chauth leading into Diwali.
- West India: Gujarati and Maharashtrian festive sets; Navratri stock often carries into Diwali.
- South India (Deepavali): temple jhumkas, Lakshmi designs, lighter temple sets.
- East India: Kali Puja coincides with Diwali in Bengal, following Durga Puja.
Timeline
| Time before Diwali | Action |
|---|---|
| Several months | Finalise designs, place new-design orders |
| A few months | Place repeat orders, confirm production slots |
| Weeks before | Stock arrives at distributors, delivered to retailers |
| Final weeks | Top-ups of fast sellers only |
Factories are busiest in the months before Diwali. Late orders risk missing the season entirely.
Gifting lines
Diwali is a gifting festival. Pendant sets, earrings and small bangles in gift boxes sell to families buying for relatives, and to businesses buying for staff and clients. Read corporate Diwali gifting.
Avoiding leftovers
Diwali demand drops sharply after the festival, but the wedding season starts. Order in batches, watch sell-through in the first weeks, and top up only proven sellers. Styles that suit the wedding season can move into wedding guest displays, and gift boxes serve the wedding gifting that follows; festive-only pieces should be cleared quickly. Record what sold by design, colour and price point in the final week, while it is fresh: that record is the best guide to next year's order.
Retailer support
Retailers appreciate distributors who deliver early, with a mix of price points and ready-to-display packaging. A festive display kit (trays, cards, care cards) helps small retailers sell more.
We manufacture festive and bridal ranges at 200 pcs per design (400 for earrings and pendants). See antique jewellery wholesale and Lakshmi designs.
How the date is set, and why it moves
Diwali falls on the new moon (Amavasya) of the Hindu month of Kartik, usually in October or November. Dhanteras, two days earlier, is traditionally an auspicious day to buy metal and jewellery. Because the festival follows the lunar (or luni-solar) calendar, its date on the Gregorian calendar shifts from year to year. Check the date for the coming year as soon as the new panchang or calendar is published, and plan factory orders backwards from it rather than from last year's date.
Why jewellery matters at Diwali
Diwali is a festival of light, prosperity and new beginnings, and Lakshmi puja is at its heart. Buying jewellery and metal on Dhanteras and wearing new clothes and jewellery for Lakshmi puja are long-standing customs. For imitation jewellery, that means two waves of demand: gifting in the weeks before, and personal buying for the Diwali days themselves.
Selling Diwali jewellery well
- Push Lakshmi and temple designs for puja, and sparkling AD pieces for Diwali parties.
- Display early: many customers shop two to three weeks before Diwali.
- Prepare for Dhanteras footfall with extra staff and well-stocked counters.
- Offer bundles: necklace set plus bangles, or earrings plus a matching tikka.
A ready-made assortment
| Piece | Share of the order | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gift sets and boxed pendants | About a quarter | Clear price points for gifting |
| AD and party sets | About a fifth | Diwali parties |
| Temple and Lakshmi pieces | About a fifth | Lakshmi puja |
| Jhumkas and chandbalis | About a fifth | Fast-moving add-ons |
| Bangles | The rest | Sets for festive outfits |
Adjust the split to your region: more temple pieces in the South, more Kundan and AD in the North.
Selling online for this occasion
Diwali gifting is increasingly online. Boxed gift sets with clear photos, delivered before Dhanteras, sell best. Plan dispatch cut-off dates and show them clearly.
