The Indian wedding season is not a fixed set of months. It follows the Hindu calendar, so it moves every year, and the 2026-27 season starts later than the last one. For a jewellery retailer or wholesaler that matters, because bridal sets are made to order and a factory needs about a month once the order is confirmed. This guide sets out what the 2026-27 calendar looks like and works backwards to the dates your orders have to go in.
When the season opens: 20 November 2026
Weddings in most Hindu communities pause during Chaturmas, the four months of the monsoon that end on Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi. In 2026 that date is 20 November, nearly three weeks later than in 2025, because the Hindu calendar has an extra (adhik) month this year. Wedding dates start from 21 November.
So the first part of the season is short. Panchang lists put only a handful of dates in late November and about five to seven in early December, and then the season stops again.
The pause: Kharmas, mid-December to mid-January
Kharmas begins when the Sun enters Dhanu (Sagittarius), around 16 December 2026, and ends around 14 January 2027. Many North Indian and Gujarati families avoid weddings in this month. Retail demand for bridal sets drops, while festival and gifting sales around Makar Sankranti and Pongal continue. South Indian calendars treat this period differently: Margazhi in Tamil Nadu is also a quiet wedding month.
The busy months: late January to February, then April to June
Most lists show the next cluster from the second half of January, running through February. After a quieter March, April to June is the longest run of dates, and May is usually the heaviest month on most calendars. Chaturmas pauses weddings again from July.
| Period | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 21 Nov to mid-Dec 2026 | Short, dense cluster. Very high demand per date |
| 16 Dec 2026 to 14 Jan 2027 | Kharmas. Few weddings in North and West India |
| Late Jan to Feb 2027 | Second cluster, many dates |
| March 2027 | Fewer dates |
| April to June 2027 | Long run of dates, May the busiest |
| July 2027 onwards | Chaturmas pause |
Check your own city's dates. Panchang lists from different publishers disagree on individual dates, and a city's dates depend on local practice. Treat the table as the shape of the year, and ask your retailers or a local pandit for the exact dates you stock for.
Why weddings cluster, and what that does to demand
When dates are few, many weddings fall on the same day. In a short window like late November, a retailer sells a large share of the season's bridal sets in two weeks. Guests buy jhumkas, bangles and lighter sets in even larger numbers than the bride's family buys full sets. Stock for both. Our wedding season calendar guide covers the regional pattern, and the South Indian muhurtham guide covers the southern calendars.
Order deadlines: work backwards from the first date
At Jagruti, catalogue designs are made to order: about one month after you confirm and pay the 60% advance, if the design is not already in stock. Add transport to you and a week of buffer for receiving and checking stock. The planner below uses that.
| Your first wedding date | Latest date to confirm the order |
|---|---|
| 21 November 2026 | Mid-October 2026. Ready-stock designs can still be added later |
| 18 January 2027 (after Kharmas) | Early to mid-December 2026 |
| Early February 2027 | Late December 2026 |
| April to May 2027 | February to early March 2027 |
If the date has already passed or is close, ask what is in ready stock. Designs that are already made can leave in about a week.
Splitting one season into batches
Because the 2026-27 season has a short first burst, a long gap and then a long second run, one big order is rarely the right shape. Place the first order for the late-November cluster now with your proven sellers, then plan the larger order for February and May once you have seen what sold. Large orders can also be delivered batch-wise. Our minimum order is 200 pieces per design (400 for earrings and pendants), and you can combine several designs in one order as long as each design reaches its minimum.
What to stock
- Bridal sets: kundan, temple and antique-finish haar and choker sets. See the bridal sets guide.
- Guest pieces: jhumkas, chandbalis, bangles and lighter necklace sets, in colours that match the season's lehengas and sarees.
- Ready-to-wear gifting pieces for the Kharmas weeks, when bridal demand is low.
After the season
Count sell-through per design before you reorder. Designs that sold out in the first cluster are the ones to repeat for May. Our guide to off-season planning covers the quiet months.
